The Ultimate Fighting Championship has a low tolerance level for athletes who consistently struggle on the scales.
Case in point: The Las Vegas-based promotion has released “The Ultimate Fighter 29” winner Bryan Battle after he missed weight badly ahead of back-to-back outings. MMAFighting.com was first to report the news.
Battle Struggled on Scales But Won Consistently in UFC
Battle was scheduled to face Nursulton Ruziboev in a middleweight bout at UFC 319 this past weekend. However, the contest was ultimately scrapped after “The Butcher” checked in at a whopping 190 pounds one day prior to the event. That transgression come on the heels of Battle weighing 175 pounds for a welterweight clash against Randy Brown at UFC 310 this past December. Battle would defeat Brown via split decision in that matchup.
The 30-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina, native compiled a 7-1 mark with one no contest during his UFC tenure. He finished five of his Octagon triumphs inside the distance. Battle also missed weight by two pounds ahead of UFC on ABC 4 in May 2023, where he defeated Gabriel Green via knockout in 14 seconds.
