Trevin Giles vs. Dricus Du Plessis targeted for UFC event on March 20

Middleweights will battle it out inside the octagon in March.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Trevin Giles and Dricus Du Plessis is being targeted for the UFC’s event on March 20. A location has yet to be announced for the upcoming fight card.

MMA Junkie was first to report the matchup.

After dropping both of his 2019 appearances against Zak Cummings and Gerald Meerschaert, Giles bounced back nicely with an unbeaten 2020 campaign. “The Problem” picked up a split-decision win over James Krause at UFC 247 in March, and finished Bevon Lewis in November via third-round TKO.

Du Plessis, a former KSW champion, comes into the bout a winner of three straight. The 26-year-old prospect made his octagon debut at October’s UFC Fight Island 5 event and delivered with a ferocious left hook KO against Markus Perez.

The UFC’s March 20 event will be headlined by a pivotal matchup at 185 pounds between Derek Brunson and Kevin Holland.
