Tyron Woodley: ‘Brown Noser’ Kamaru Usman Not the Welterweight GOAT

Tyron Woodley considers Kamaru Usman to be the greatest brown noser in UFC welterweight history.

Dana White recently had fans and pundits divided by labeling Usman the greatest UFC welterweight of all time. However, Woodley believes he is ahead of Usman on that list. Woodley believes Usman has earned special status by staying in White’s good graces. Woodley notes that calling Usman the GOAT would put him ahead of Georges St. Pierre, which is ridiculous according to “The Chosen One.”

‘The Realest Route’

“Kamaru is not the greatest welterweight of all time,” Woodley told MMAFighting.com. “I had the realest route, I had the realest reign… What he is – He is the one that kissed the most ass. He’s the one that, ‘Oh let’s have uncle Dana on my podcast. Let me accept every fight, let me go to Vegas and just loiter in his office every week and just try to stay in his good graces and accept whatever offer.’… He’s the biggest brown noser in the welterweight division… Once you say he’s the greatest and you’re trying to say he’s better than GSP, nobody is even listening to you after that.”

Woodley (19-7) won the welterweight title against Robbie Lawler in 2016 and defended it four times before losing it to Usman in 2019. Woodley never won in the UFC again and parted ways with the promotion on a four-fight slump in 2021. Woodley has since lost two boxing bouts against Jake Paul

Meanwhile, Usman (21-4) defended his belt five times before losing to Leon Edwards in 2022. “The Nigerian Nightmare” failed to regain his title in the immediate rematch and then suffered a decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev at middleweight. Usman returned to action after 20 months this past June, scoring a decision win over Joaquin Buckley
