UFC 230 Adds Lando Vannata-Matt Frevola, Brian Kelleher-Domingo Pilarte

Two new bouts featuring Long Island, New York-based fighters have been added to UFC 230, with a lightweight matchup between Matt Frevola and Lando Vannata and bantamweights Brian Kelleher and UFC newcomer Domingo Pilarte filling out the promotion’s next foray into the Big Apple, Newsday reported this week.

Vannata has had an inconsistent run in the Ultimate Fighting Championship thus far, nearly defeating perennial top-five lightweight Tony Ferguson on short notice back in 2016 before submitting to a D’Arce choke in the second round. “Groovy” followed that up with a phenomenal first-round knockout against John Makdessi, but has since gone 0-2-1 since then. Selden, New York native Frevola will look to bounce back after a knockout loss to Marco Polo Reyes earlier this year.

Fellow Long Island resident Kelleher is coming off of a knockout loss at the hands of bantamweight powerhouse John Lineker at UFC 224 in May. His opponent Pilarte is a veteran of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, submitting Vince Morales for a UFC contract.

UFC 230 will take place on Nov. 30 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will feature blockbuster bouts including Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Costa and Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz, with a rematch between former middleweight champions Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman rumored to be in the works.
