Wood recently revealed that an old lesson from his strength and conditioning coach has become his lifestyle now. Wood’s coach had advised to take a nap in the middle of the day to increase his athletic ability. While Wood initially didn’t take it seriously, now the Englishman can’t train twice a day without a nap in between. However, Wood admits that it’s a burden at times as he doesn’t feel complete for the second session if he doesn’t get in a nap beforehand.
’I Cannot Function Without a Nap Now’
“My strength and conditioning coach said to me a long time ago, ‘Mate, if you get the naps in it will increase athletic performance,’” Wood told Home of Fight. “I was thinking, ‘Oh a nap? Come on, I’m not going to a nap. I’m 28 years old, you know I ain’t doing that.’ Mate I cannot function without a nap now. It’s changed my life but sometimes it’s a pain in the arse. Because if I don’t get my nap, I’ll get irritable. First session in the morning, done. Come home, have a nap. So my second session, feel brand new. If I don’t have a nap, come second session I’m a bit like you know a bit brain foggy, a bit fatigued. Get that nap in, get that coffee in, I’m good to go.”
Wood is scheduled to face touted newcomer Jose Delgado (10-1) at UFC 321 on Saturday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. “The Prospect” is 9-3 in the UFC with wins over the likes of John Castaneda, Charles Jourdain, Andre Fili and Morgan Charriere. Meanwhile, Delgado earned his contract with a knockout on the Contender Series last year and has since score back-to-back first round knockout wins.
