During his UFC 325 encounter against Jacob Malkoun, Finney sustained multiple major leg injuries early into the match. The Tennessean went on to drop a decision after three lackluster rounds. Per the fighter on social media this Thursday, his leg was torn to shreds mere seconds into the matchup. As a result, the UFC medical staff and Finney’s team determined that he needed to be rushed to surgery the day after his bout.

“Thank God he’s built me to overcome every obstacle I’ve faced and that will be the story once again,” Finney wrote. “I tore my ACL and my both of my meniscus within my knee. Got me into surgery the next day. [Doctor] said it’s insane I was able to fight tearing that 15 seconds into the fight.”
Finney Far from Finished
On his Instagram page, “The Punisher” added additional comment of his performance, while ending it on a positive note.
“I will say I was in some uncharted waters not being able to do what I can skillset wise based on injury not opponent. Can’t wait to showcase all the things I have gotten so much better at within my skillset to the world but now we focus on recovery and growth,” he finished, along with hashtags reading “TheJourneyContinues” and “RoadtoRecovery.”
Finney also showed video early on in the match where one could see him take a funny step and hop in the air to favor his damaged limb. This, per the fighter, stifled him from imposing his game, as the Tennessee native was outstruck over 4-to-1 by Malkoun and his sole takedown attempt was stuffed. This spelled the first defeat for the stocky middleweight.
“The Punisher” started his career locally in the southern states of the U.S., competing for organizations like National Fighting Championship in Georgia and Aries Fight Series in his home state. He also dabbled in the now-defunct Ikon Fighting Championship league purchased by Jorge Masvidal, winning in both outings. It took Finney three victories on Dana White’s Contender Series to get a contract, and his promotional debut in April 2025 went his way when he took a decision over Robert Valentin.
