UFC heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall shares positive recovery update

Tom Aspinall’s recovery is going well.

Aspinall underwent multiple eye procedures after being poked in the eye by Ciryl Gane in his first heavyweight title defense at UFC 320 last year. Aspinall recently revealed that he is recovering. While Aspinall previously couldn’t move his right eye, things have since improved. The UFC heavyweight champ is pleased with the results from his latest checkup. According to “Honey Badger,” he will be ready for contact training soon if things keep going well. While Aspinall isn’t sparring yet, he is back in the gym.

Meanwhile, Gane and Aspinall are scheduled to fight for the interim heavyweight title at UFC White House: Freedom 250 on June 14. Aspinall claims the UFC has guaranteed that he will fight the winner.

“I had a scan and things are progressing fuc*ing nicely, which I’m very happy about,” Aspinall said on his official YouTube channel. “They’re saying, pretty soon; things keep moving in the right direction, I will be cleared for contact. I’m back in the gym, I’m back training. No sparring just yet. But if things keep going the way they’re going, we’re back… Alex and Ciryl have to fight for the interim title, obviously I’m going to fight the winner. The UFC have told me that I’m going to fight the winner.”

Aspinall (15-3) had a slight falling out with Ultimate Fighting Championship brass after his fight against Gane. The fight ended in a no-contest as Aspinall was unable to continue after getting eye-poked in the first round. However, Dana White hinted that Aspinall didn’t continue as he wanted a way out. Aspinall also didn’t hide his disappointment about White’s comments. Aspinall has since signed with the management of Eddie Hearn, who is a rival of White.
