UFC Lightweight Quillan Salkilld Explains How He Became Meme Fodder

Quillan Salkilld has been flooded with memes due to the nationality of the opponents he has defeated inside the Octagon.

Salkilld recently revealed that his comments section has become something of an Indo-Pak warzone for fans. It started with the Australian lightweight’s Ultimate Fighting Championship debut in February, when he flattened Anshul Jubli, the only active Indian male fighter on the promotion’s roster, in just 19 seconds. Salkilld has since been called “Pakistan’s Greatest Warrior,” owing to the nation’s age-old rivalry with India. However, it did not stop there. Salkilld earned nicknames like “Minority Killer” by beating the only active Israeli UFC fighter, Yanal Ashmouz, in his sophomore outing with the company. The situation further escalated when he brutally knocked out Morocco’s Nasrat Haqparast on short notice at UFC 321 in October. “I think I’m the most meme’d fighter right now,” Salkilld told Home of Fight. “The edits are cool, but it’s the memes that get me. I have got India and Pakistan having a war in my comments section still. No matter what I post, they’re just going at each other. That’s the best part, the memes. I’ve worked so hard for all these years, and now that I’ve finally got here to the point where I want to be, that’s what I’m known for. Great. After my debut, it started and then it just built, just coincidentally with my opponents, who they’ve been and where they’re from. And then it just spiraled.”
