This is becoming a habit for Valter Walker.
The Brazilian garnered a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his third consecutive heel hook submission in the Octagon at UFC Nashville on Saturday night at Bridgestone Arena. This time, Johnny Walker’s younger brother needed just 54 seconds to dispatch Kennedy Nzechukwu with the maneuver in their preliminary heavyweight encounter. The list of victims for “The Clean Monster” now includes Nzechukwu, Don’Tale Mayes and Junior Tafa.
Featherweights Receive ‘Fight of the Night’ Recognition
Elsewhere, Morgan Charriere and Nate Landwehr earned “Fight of the Night” and $50,000 apiece for a spirited featherweight clash on the main card. Charriere surged ahead early, but Landwehr appeared to be turning the tide in Round 2. However, “The Last Pirate” exploded with a flurry of offense for a knockout triumph 27 seconds into the final frame.
Finally, Fatima Kline was recognized for her work in the evening’s opening bout, as she received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for a finish of Melissa Martinez in a strawweight affair. Kline built a lead on the scorecards through 10 minutes, but she saved her best for Round 3, when she dropped her opponent with a head kick and sealed her victory with a barrage of punches at the 2:36 mark of the period.
