Charles Oliveira and three others earned bonuses at UFC Rio.
Oliveira (36-11) headlined the card against Mateusz Gamrot (25-4) in front of a home crowd in the main event at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Oliveira closed as a slight underdog going into the matchup. However, “do Bronx” had the whole arena on its feet as he submitted the Polish contender with a face crank in the second round. Oliveira walked away with an extra $50K Performance of the Night bonus for his win.
Vitor Petrino (13-2) also earned a $50K bonus for his knockout win over Thomas Petersen (10-4). Petrino knocked Peterson out while on his feet with an uppercut and left hook combo.
Beatriz Mesquita (6-0) earned a bonus for her submission of Irina Alekseeva (5-4). The IBJJF hall of famer made her Ultimate Fighting Championship debut against Alekseeva as a huge favourite. “Bia” dominated Alekseeva on the ground from the very onset and submitted her with a rear-naked choke in the second round.
Julia Polastri (14-5) also earned a POTN bonus for her knockout of Karolina Kowalkiewicz. “Psycho” battered Kowalkiewicz (16-10) on the feet from the opening bell and forced the referee to step in midway through the final round.
