Veteran Nevada referee Steve Tognoni tested his defensive wrestling when Melquizael Costa tried to ground him after being pounded out by Steve Garcia at UFC Vegas 83.
Garcia opened a spigot of blood on Costa’s face with brutal ground and pound before Tognoni had seen enough at the 1:01 mark of the second round. Costa’s head bounced off the canvas, and when Tognoni saved him, he repaid the effort with a takedown attempt.

LFA vet Costa falls to 1-2 in the octagon after a win over Austin Lingo at UFC Vegas 77.
