The former five-time NCAA All-American wrestler improved to 2-0 in his burgeoning MMA career, as he dispatched Kevin Hein via knockout in 24 seconds in the Anthony Pettis FC 21 main event at Isleta Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Sunday night.
Steveson rocked his opponent with an overhand left just as he was changing levels for a takedown, and Hein had already stiffened from the blow by the time he landed on the canvas. Fortunately for him, referee Allen Dominguez was aware enough to dive in and prevent Steveson from landing further damage.
UFC Bound?
It was Steveson’s second consecutive first-round KO in MMA after he stopped Braden Peterson 1:38 into the opening stanza of his professional debut at LFA 217 on Sept. 12. Afterward, Steveson gave a shoutout to one of the UFC’s matchmakers.
“I think a guy named [UFC matchmaker] Mick Maynard was supposed to come from Qatar, but I don’t know if he’s here,” Steveson said in his post-fight interview.
Steveson’s venture into combat sports has also included a 15-second stoppage of Billy Swanson under the Dirty Boxing banner on Oct. 30.
