One of combat sports’ most influential rules regulators is now part of the UFC Hall of Fame.
It was announced during Saturday’s UFC 255 broadcast that UFC senior vice president of government and regulatory affairs Marc Ratner has been inducted into the Hall of Fame’s Contributor Wing. Ratner also served as the executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission from 1992 to 2006, overseeing some of the most biggest fights in boxing and MMA history.
Ratner’s other significant honors include inductions in the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame.
In 2006, Ratner began working for the UFC at a time when MMA was legal in only 22 states.
As a leader on the UFC’s regulatory affairs team, Ratner is credited with being a major contributor to the introduction of rules and regulations that resulted in MMA being legalized across the world. That includes the work that went into the state of New York finally lifting its ban on MMA in 2016.
Ratner’s induction will officially take place sometime in 2021.
Other members of the UFC Hall of Fame Contributor Wing include UFC co-creator Art Davie, longtime matchmaker Joe Silva, and former UFC commissioner Jeff Blatnick.
