Jhonata Diniz made his UFC debut with the reputation of a knockout artist and he didn’t disappoint.
The Brazilian kickboxer shook off a poor start and leveled Austen Lane with a powerful two-punch combo in their heavyweight contest at UFC Vegas 91 on Saturday.

Diniz was in major trouble early on as Lane was able to tackle him to the mat and neutralize his striking. The former Glory kickboxer did enough to survive with Lane raining ground-and-pound on him from full mount until the end of the opening round.
Back on the feet in Round 2, Diniz took advantage of Lane’s waning gas tank. He easily deflected a Lane takedown attempt and then poured on the pressure with his expert striking. When Lane fired back, that proved to be the beginning of the end. Diniz broke through Lane’s defenses, cracking his chin with a left hand and then following up with more heavy leather.
Another hard left sent Lane crashing face-first to the canvas, prompting the referee to wave off the bout 2:12 into the second round.
Diniz is now 7-0 in MMA with his UFC debut victory, while Lane falls to 0-2 in the UFC and 12-5 (1 NC) overall.
