Alex Pereira Proposes Special Charity Match Against Khamzat Chimaev

Alex Pereira might be willing to face Khamzat Chimaev — but only under certain conditions.

Chimaev has recently expressed interest in moving up to 205 pounds to fight the reigning UFC light heavyweight champ, but “Poatan” is currently angling for a showdown with Jon Jones at the promotion’s White House event next year. However, in a post on Instagram, Pereira indicated that he would consider a grappling match against Chimaev.

“That guy says he wants to fight with me, he’s gotta get out there, understand?” Pereira in a video while speaking to mentor Glover Teixeira. “He’s far, but I could challenge fight in his area if he wants. Let me look at you directly, let’s fight in your area. Let’s fight in grappling. And another thing, we can fight in the UFC. UFC is doing BJJ, right? UFC BJJ. Let’s do that then, let’s make it happen.”

UFC BJJ was launched earlier this year and has thus far held a trio of events at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, with the most recent occuring this past October. While UFC BJJ boasts champions in four weight classes, Pereira has something else in mind for a potential grappling match against Chimaev.

For a Good Cause

“Another thing,” Pereira said. “I don’t even know how much I’ll make — good money, though, you know who I am, the money is good—that money will be donated 100% to charity. That work for you? Chama.”

Chimaev is well known for his grappling prowess, which was on full display at UFC 319, when he landed 12 takedowns and logged 21:40 of control time to claim the middleweight crown with a dominant victory over Dricus Du Plessis.

“I said I’d be my house [on Pereira beating Chimaev] in MMA, but this guy is nuts and wants to fight grappling,” Teixeira said. “Let’s go then.”
