Top lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan recently revealed that he earns roughly $300,000 to show and win, which means around $150,000 for a loss. Tsarukyan has to pay 30% of that purse as taxes. From the remaining amount, “Ahalkalakets” pays 5% to the gym, 5% to the coach, and 15% to his manager. While there is a scope of earning a bonus, Tsarukyan revealed that he fights at a loss most of the time. According to Tsarukyan, he would barely be earning anything if not for sponsorships.

Tsarukyan said in a recent interview on his YouTube channel:
Interviewer: So, you get 300K?
Arman: No, that’s for a win.
Interviewer: So if you lose, what — around 150K?
Arman: Yeah, roughly. And from that — 30% taxes, right away. Then from what’s left — 50 percent goes out, five to the gym, five to the coach, 15 to the manager. You prepare for two to three months and end up at zero.
Interviewer: But if you win, you get a bonus?
Arman: Yeah, that’s the motivation. But in general, you’re kind of fighting at a loss most of the time.
Interviewer: So the main income comes from sponsorships, right?
Arman: Yeah, sponsorships, that’s how you actually make money.
Tsarukyan (22-3) was originally scheduled to challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title earlier this year before being forced out due to an injury. Dana White made clear that he wasn’t impressed with Tsarukyan pulling out and made sure that he didn’t get the next title shot. Tsarukyan is now scheduled to headline UFC Qatar against Dan Hooker (24-12) at the ABHA Arena in Doha on Nov. 22.
