Arman Tsarukyan Reveals Post-Retirement Plans in Another Sport

Arman Tsarukyan won’t leave sports after he retires from mixed martial arts.

Tsarukyan (23-3) recently revealed that he plans to compete in triathlons after he retires from MMA. “Ahalkalakets” is proud of his cycling skills and considers himself to be a decent swimmer. Tsarukyan plans to develop his running to compete in triathlons around the world, which will give him exposure to diverse people and cultures.

“I’m going to take up triathlon,” Tsarukyan said ahead of his ACBJJ grappling match. “I’m very good at riding a bicycle and I swim well; just add running and you’ll be traveling the world. There are competitions, the communities are diverse, you meet different people, and it’s such an interesting hobby.”

Tsarukyan was originally scheduled to face ACA champion Abdul-Aziz Abdulvakhabov in a no-gi grappling match in Moscow on Dec. 17. However, Abdulvakhabov pulled out due to an injury and was replaced by Mehdi Baydulaev. Tsarukyan and Baydulaev will compete for the inaugural “Stars Belt” in the main event at ACBJJ 20.

Tsarukyan was forced out of a lightweight title shot against Islam Makhachev earlier this year due to an injury. Disappointed with Tsarukyan, Dana White made sure he was sidelined from the title picture. When Makhachev vacated the belt, Ilia Topuria won the strap against Charles Oliveira. While Tsarukyan kept rallying for a title shot against Topuria, the new champion threatened retirement if forced to fight “Ahalkalakets.” Tsarukyan believed a title shot would be undeniable after he submitted Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar last month. However, as Topuria takes a short hiatus, Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje will compete for the interim title at UFC 324 on Jan. 24 in Las Vegas. White says Tsarukyan knows what’s going on and that needs to work more for another title shot.
