Daniel Cormier Reveals What He Misses Most After Retirement

Daniel Cormier doesn’t miss training or fighting after retiring from MMA.

Cormier recently shared some advice for young fighters who are starting their career. The former UFC double champ advises fighters to stay committed, and most importantly, love every day of the journey. Cormier revealed that the thing he misses most from his active days is the camaraderie he shared with his teammates in the gym. Cormier trained under the tutelage of head coach Javier Mendez at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California.  AKA is known for being a tight-knit team where ties extend far beyond the training mats.

Cormier shares a deep bond with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev, which has now spilled over to the rest of the Dagestani brigade. “DC” also misses training with former teammates Cain Velasquez, Luke Rockhold, Josh Thomson and Jon Fitch, among others.

‘Love Every Day’

“Work hard, stay committed. Love every day, because that’s the thing you miss when it’s done,” Cormier said in a recent interview with Warrior Code International. “I don’t have any anxiety about not training and fighting. I miss the time I got to spend with all my friends in the gym – with Cain Velasquez, Luke Rockhold, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, Josh Thomson and Jon Fitch. All those great guys, that’s what I miss. I don’t miss the fighting. I miss the camaraderie of being in the gym with my friends. So live every day, love every day and just be super committed to everything you are doing.”

Cormier (22-3) scaled great heights in an MMA career spanning over a decade. The former Olympian won and defended the light heavyweight title thrice, won the heavyweight title, and also shared one of the most iconic rivalries in UFC history with Jon Jones. The UFC Hall of Famer called it a career after a trilogy loss to Stipe Miocic in 2020.
