After Jorge Masvidal’s emphatic knockout victory over Ben Askren earlier this month at UFC 239, former lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor was a name that popped up as a potential next opponent despite Masvidal’s assertion that he deserved a title shot.
UFC President Dana White has been in contact with McGregor for a return to the Octagon, with the Irishman’s absent from competition since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov last October. While White would love to see McGregor back inside the Octagon, he claimed Masvidal would not be an appropriate opponent as Masvidal is “too big for him.”
During the UFC 240 post-fight press conference, White fielded questions from reporters regarding a potential Masvidal-McGregor fight and revealed that McGregor was annoyed with him (via LowKickMMA).
“Yeah, Masvidal is too big for him, man. I think Masvidal is too big, Conor disagrees. Conor was not happy that I said Masvidal was too big for him,” White said.
White then read out a text message that “The Notorious” had sent to him earlier.
“‘That pisses me off that you say he’s too big for me.’ I’m telling you guys, I’ve said it a million times, and I’ll say it again, this guy will fight anybody,” White said. “And I don’t care if he’s pissed off about it or not, I think Masvidal is too big for Conor. So, if we ever get to that point, I’m sure it’s something that Conor and I will fight about.”
