On a Wednesday appearance on ”The Herd with Colin Cowherd”, UFC chief Dana White discussed the upcoming event at the White House. A week before, details came out regarding the show that has been discussed for either June or July, depending on the source. With the festivities going down at the White House, Lincoln Memorial and across the National Mall, the promotion is aware that security will be tight.

White said to Colin Cowherd, as transcribed by MMA Fighting, “The last time I was at the White House, I went up on the roof of the White House and they got snipers with .50 [caliber rifles] all over the roof of the White House. It’s pretty crazy. But yes, security is going to be a massive issue, because at the end of the day, Secret Service’s job is to protect the president, and I don’t know how it’s going to work out as far as having people there live on the lawn of the White House.”
When it comes to attendance numbers, White admitted that there will be far fewer live at the event than previously intimated—some posited that upwards of 20 to 25,000 could have been there.
“It’ll be under 5,000 [people live at the event],” White noted.
Nearby Areas May Serve as Crowd Overflow
Per White, while only a few thousand will be in attendance at the White House at the maximum, many more will be able to view the event in the vicinity. The organization has suggested that view screens could be placed around the area to bring in legions of fans.
“There’s a park that’s connected to the White House,” White said, “we could put 85,000 people over there with screens, and we’re going to put a big stage out there, do concerts.”
The message remained constant for the UFC president, who has plans of turning the week of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of the Independence into one people will remember for years. The promotion may end up setting up a de facto International Fight Week, as reports and statements have come out saying that other events leading up to the White House card will play out during the week.
“We’re going to take over Washington, DC, that whole week,” the head of the UFC said with gusto.
