Prates, Ruffy, Jean Silva and Caio Borralho quickly rose to success in the UFC as the Fighting Nerds, sporting the nerd glasses as their symbol. The team grew under the tutelage of head coach Pablo Sucupira in São Paulo, Brazil.

However, Ruffy briefly parted ways with the team following his first UFC loss against Benoit St. Denis last year. Ruffy joined City Kickboxing in New Zealand for his last fight against Rafael Fiziev, whom he knocked out this past January. Ruffy has since officially parted ways with the Fighting Nerds team. Prates harbors no hard feelings towards Ruffy despite the latter leaving the team. Ruffy is scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at UFC White House on June 14. Prates believes Ruffy will defeat Chandler and eagerly awaits the fight.
Cheering on His Former Teammate
“He has his own team,” Prates said on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” “He’s really smart and intelligent. I’m sure he is doing a really good job. I think he’s gonna win against Chandler, I’m really excited to watch the fight… For me, no [hard feelings].”
Ruffy had a falling out with Silva towards the end of last year. Silva, who used to consider Ruffy one of his best friends and mentors, officially confirmed that they are not friends any longer. However, the rest of the team, including the coaches, have no hard feelings for Ruffy. Ruffy (13-2) has reportedly set up his own team for his upcoming fight against Chandler (23-10). Sucupira says the doors at Fighting Nerds will always be open for Ruffy, even if he wants to do just a short camp.
