Carlos Condit has pulled out of a proposed welterweight clash with Mickey Gall at UFC on ESPN 7 due to a detached retina.
The former interim champion announced the news in an Instagram story on Wednesday. The promotion is reportedly seeking a replacement opponent for Gall.
“Unfortunately I am out of the fight against Mickey Gall,” Condit wrote. “I have a detached retina and I need surgery. It sucks and it’s a [shitty] situation. My apologies to Mickey and his team. Hopefully the UFC can find a replacement. I hope to be healed up and back sometime in the spring.”
Condit is currently on a five-bout losing streak that dates back to a contentious split-decision defeat against Robbie Lawler in a 170-pound title bout at UFC 195 in January 2016. In his most recent outing, “The Natural Born Killer” suffered a submission loss to Michael Chiesa at UFC 232.
UFC on ESPN 7 takes place at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 7 and is headlined by a heavyweight clash between Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
