Drew Dober Reveals How Wife Motivated Him for Latest Win

Retirement crossed Drew Dober’s mind before his wife motivated him for at least one more fight.

Dober was on the longest losing streak of his career, having dropped three fights in a row since last year. With some around him advising retirement, the 37-year-old was at a critical juncture in his life.

Dober was discussing his career with his wife, Hollis Casey, while vacationing in Paris. Dober wanted her advice on whether he should take at least another UFC fight. Casey said that if he felt ready for another fight, he should go all in without considering retirement. When the opportunity came for a fight against Kyle Prepolec at UFC Vancouver, Dober didn’t hesitate. Dober returned to the win column last weekend with a third-round stoppage win in enemy territory against the Canadian newcomer.

Dober Committed to One More Fight While on Vacation

“We were on a family vacation in Paris. I got a night out with my wife. We were sitting and talking. I was like, ‘I have never been in this part of my life career wise, three fight losing streak, people talking about retirement… I asked her, ‘Are we doing one more?’” Dober told Home of Fight. “And she goes: ‘Yeah! But if you’re ready to do one more, you do it with 100% of your ability, not thinking half way in, half way out, retirement, this and that. If we’re doing one more we’re doing this as the most potent emotional being that you are.’ And so we committed to it on that day.”
