Per MMA Fighting on Friday, the Florida Athletic Commission has released the details regarding the headlining boxing affair between Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) and Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs). Due in part to the size difference—Davis weighed 135 pounds in a recent encounter, while Paul approaches or exceeds 200 pounds in his bouts—the tilt will be considered an exhibition. Knockouts will still end the fight, but the result will not be a part of either fighter’s permanent record.

Additionally, the commission has determined that the athletes will be wearing 12-ounce gloves. They will ply their trade across 10 three-minute rounds at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Nov. 14, with the broadcast airing free on Netflix. Normally, exhibition bouts are not scored, but this match will be different: three judges will score it, with a twist.
Special Rules for a Special Fight
For the first time in a noteworthy boxing event, one judge officially scoring a match will be computerized—or as the commission lists, an AI judge. While Ring Magazine introduced the “4th Judge” to follow along with fight scores and test the experimental software, and an AI judge cropped up for the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury bout, it has yet to deliver an “official” scorecard. The cards will be collected for posterity and not actual results, as the tallies are nonbinding given the exhibition nature of the contest.
The two first planned on facing off in Atlanta, but the organization withdrew under the expectation that the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission would shut it down. Florida gladly took the fight in, despite its unique rules for the headliner that do not apply to other bouts on the billing. Multiple title fights, including a super featherweight championship clash between once-beatens Alycia Baumgardner and Leila Beaudoin, will be contested under standard boxing rules.
The commission clarified that, as transcribed by MMA Fighting, “The Florida Athletic Commission remains committed to transparency, regulatory compliance and the continued safe advancement of combative sports in Florida.”
