“I’ll fight anybody the company wants me to, but I really want to fight Francis [Ngannou],” Nemkov said through an translator during an interview with the PFL broadcast team.
Nemkov improved to 3-0 at heavyweight by submitting 2024 PFL champion Renan Ferreira with an arm-triangle choke in the opening stanza of their headliner encounter at the LDLC Arena in Lyon, France. Coincidentally, Ngannou’s lone PFL bout came against “El Problema” last year, when the Cameroonian-born Frenchman pounded out Ferreira inside of a round at the promotion’s “Battle of the Giants” event.
A Potential Clash of the Titans
Nemkov’s callout didn’t go unnoticed. Ngannou responded in the affirmative in a post on social media, perhaps signaling that “The Predator” is ready to get back to work after a week of dealing with rumors regarding an alleged altercation with UFC CEO Dana White.
“I been ready for a long time,” Ngannou wrote on X. “See you [soon].”
Ngannou hasn’t competed since the aforementioned victory against Ferreira this past October — which is his only MMA appearance since January 2022. The former UFC heavyweight king also faced Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in boxing matches prior to making his PFL debut.
Nemkov was regarded as one of the top light heavyweights in the sport during his reign as Bellator MMA champion. Since moving to heavyweight, the Fedor Emelianenko protege has vanquished Bruno Cappelozza, Tim Johnson and Ferreira inside the distance. The 33-year-old is unbeaten in his last 15 professional outings overall.
