Giga Chikadze vs. Alex Caceres set for Aug. 8 UFC event

Featherweight standouts Giga Chikadze and Alex Caceres are set to meet on Aug. 8 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

The bout was first reported by BJPENN.com and confirmed to MMA Fighting by people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans. The bout order for the event has not been finalized, but the card will be headlined by a heavyweight fight between Derrick Lewis and Aleksei Oleinik, and featured is a middleweight matchup between ex-champ Chris Weidman and Omari Akhmedov.

For Caceres, the bout marks another chance to deflate the hype of a lesser-experienced octagon opponent. In his previous bout, he took on up-and-coming youngster Chase Hooper and dealt out a three-round beatdown at UFC 250. The win extended his current streak to two fights.

Afterward, Caceres said he wanted to be a voice for his community during the national Black Lives Matter protests.

Chikadze, meanwhile, is trending up with three straight UFC wins and five including his appearances on the regional circuit. In May, he outpointed Irwin Rivera in his most recent octagon appearance.
