Gilbert Burns doesn’t plan to fight for much longer.
Having invested smartly along with his wife, Burns doesn’t need to fight for money anymore. “Durinho” only steps inside the Octagon because he enjoys the sport. Burns recently revealed that he has four fights left in his current UUltimate Fighting Championship contract. However, the former UFC welterweight title challenger would prefer fighting only twice more.

Burns Has Been Smart with His Money
“Me and my wife — we [are] being smart investing money,” Burns told the Buiten de Kooi MMA Podcast. “So financially we’re in a good place. For sure, still got to work but I don’t need to fight for the money. I fight because I like it, I have fun. I still have four more fights in my contract, but I’m kind of in a mood to maybe two more.”
Burns has gone 15-9 in the UFC with wins over the likes of Demian Maia, Tyron Woodley, Neil Magny and Stephen Thompson. The Brazilian’s career peaked when he challenged former teammate Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title in 2021, suffering a stoppage loss. Burns was still seemingly in his prime when he gave current middleweight champ Khamzat Chimaev one of the toughest tests of his career en route to a decision loss. Burns went on to rebound from the loss against Chimaev with wins over Jorge Masvidal and Magny. However, “Durinho” has since been on a steep downward slope, dropping four straight, the most recent of which was a brutal stoppage against up-and-comer Michael Morales this past May.
