Kiefer Crosbie Blasts Marc Goddard for ‘Ridiculous Call’ at UFC Shanghai

While Kiefer Crosbie elected to continue after being dazed by an illegal knee at UFC Shanghai, he believes veteran official Marc Goddard could have managed the situation much better than he did.

Octagon newcomer Nueraji Taiyilake rocked Crosbie with the foul early in their welterweight matchup, prompting Goddard to pause the action. Once it was determined that Crosbie could continue, Goddard deducted two points from Taiyilake for the knee and the action resumed. It didn’t take Taiyilake long to finish the job from there, as he tossed his opponent to the floor and dropped a series of forceful elbows from above. Goddard gave Crosbie a little extra leeway to defend himself before halting the bout 3:33 into Round 1.

When reflecting on the bout, Crosbie criticized Goddard for restarting the action too quickly. The 35-year-old SBG Ireland representative claims that he still didn’t have his bearings when the bout resumed.

Crosbie Falls to 0-3 in UFC

“Yeah take away a point and I’ll carry on. [Sounds good],” Crosbie wrote on Instagam. “‘My job is to keep you safe at all times.’

“How come I didn’t get five minutes [to recover Marc Goddard]? 45 seconds I got and couldn’t even see straight or remember what happened. Obviously I was going to continue because that’s what fighters do but to rush me back in whilst still concussed and confused is f—-ing ridiculous. Playing with my life. Ridiculous call.”

Crosbie is now 0-3 within the Las Vegas-based promotion and has been finished inside of a round on each occasion. Taiyilake, meanwhile, extended his professional winning streak to six — all by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
