Gamrot headlines UFC Rio on Saturday against Charles Oliveira in enemy territory at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “Gamer” recently revealed that he has been living in a room at the American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida. Gamrot was invited to ATT by fellow Polish fighter and UFC Hall of Famer, Joanna Jedrzejczyk. When Gamrot usually came to ATT from Poland, he would live in the gym’s dormitory. But Gamrot loves the environment away from all distractions, which allows him to focus on himself.
But it was a hard decision to leave his family back in Poland and move to the U.S., as Gamrot’s young kids didn’t understand why their father was leaving home. Gamrot still cries to himself sometimes when he misses his family. However, things are getting better with time as Gamrot’s kids are beginning to understand the sacrifices he is making. All of this is to become the best fighter in the world, as Gamrot believes: “Good times make weak people, hard times make strong people.”
Gamrot Prefers No Distractions for Camp
“My second home. I love this place, I spend all my time here,” Gamrot told ESPN. “I start coming ATT 2017. Joanna Jedrzejczyk, she invite me here… When I came to ATT, I live in the dorms. I love this atmosphere, no distractions, no TV, no nothing. When I made the decision to come to American Top Team to train, was difficult decision for me because I left my family, my kids didn’t understand why daddy left the house, but every year it’s getting better. Because they understand why I do this.
“This is a hard decision; sometimes I cry in my room, but when I call my kids it gives me energy. I have a lot of time for myself, the same time I sacrifice for my family to be the best fighter. Good time make weak people, hard time make strong people.”
Mateusz Gamrot still lives in the gym, sacrificing family time for greatness.🫡👏
