Petr Yan claims he wasn’t in his best shape when he fought Merab Dvalishvili the first time, and he wants a chance at redemption.
Yan dropped a unanimous decision against Dvalishvili in their first outing in 2023. Dvalishvili dethroned Sean O’Malley last year to win the bantamweight title. “The Machine” has already defended his title thrice this year, most recently against Cory Sandhagen at UFC 320 last Saturday.

Dvalishvili subsequently revealed plans to defend his title again this year, aiming to set the record for the most UFC title defenses within a year. The most likely date for Dvalishvili’s return this year would be UFC 323 in December. Yan is ready to challenge Dvalishvili for the title in December. “No Mercy” claims he was only 50% in his first outing against Dvalishvili and promises a different fight in a potential rematch.
Yan: ‘Last Time I Was Compromised’
“I’ve been waiting for this chance, and I’m ready to fight in December,” Yan told Ariel Helwani. “I believe it’s gonna be a great fight. We have history. Last time I was compromised, I was only on 50%. This time it will be something different.”
Yan has defeated Yadong Song, Deiveson Figueiredo and Marcus McGhee since his loss to Dvalishvili.
Petr Yan says he fought at 50% in the first fight against Merab:
