Mohammed Usman is taking “full responsibility” for the failed drug test that will sideline him from active competition until April 2028.

On Friday, Combat Sports Anti-Doping and the UFC announced that Usman tested positive for an exogenous source of testosterone in an out-of-competition sample provided on Sept. 8. That anti-doping violation resulted in his removal from a proposed heavyweight clash against Valter Walker at UFC Fight Night 261 in Rio de Janeiro this past October. Because CSAD determined that Usman engaged in “deceptive conduct” to avoid sanctions, he was given an extended suspension of two years and six months.

Usman admitted to using testosterone both in the past and leading up to UFC Rio. He also used the banned peptide, BPC-157, earlier in 2025. The 36-year-old Usman addressed his failed drug test in a brief statement released via social media.

Gaining a Deeper Appreciation for Life

“I want to address my suspension,” Usman wrote on Instagram. “During my recovery, I made a mistake while trying to heal, and I take full responsibility for it. The time has allowed me to get my health back, focus on my family, and gain a deeper appreciation for life.”

Usman, who is the younger brother of former UFC welterweight champ Kamaru Usman, last appeared at UFC Baku this past June, when he took a unanimous decision triumph over Hamdy Abdelwahab. “The Motor” is 4-2 over the course of a promotional tenure that began in 2022.
