Former Muay Thai champ Warren Brown gives the inside scoop on Strike Back’s final season

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, so it is that after eight seasons, Cinemax’s high-octane hit series Strike Back enters its final run.

For the series’ three most recent seasons, former Muay Thai world champion Warren Brown has helmed the role of Sgt. Thomas “Mac” McAllister. Now with the series’ final season upon him, Brown spoke to MMAWeekly.com about his Strike Back journey and what it was like to work on one of the most action packed shows on television.

MMAWeekly.com: Here we are Warren, the final season of Strike Back on Cinemax is underway. What are your thoughts heading into the show’s last episodes?

Warren Brown: Obviously it’s been a hell of a three-year roller coaster ride. I’ve worked with some tremendous people and have become friends with some great people from all over the world because of this show.

Now that it’s over, of course there’s an element of sadness. However, going into it, we know it’s going to be the last one, we all wanted to go out with a bang. Strike Back has always tried to top what’s come before it, and this being the final one we wanted to give the fans a hell of a ride and go out with a bang, and I think it’s quite possibly the strongest Strike Back ever.

MMAWeekly.com: What has it been like working with castmates Alin Sumarwata and Daniel MacPherson, along with the crew over the past three years?

Warren Brown: Going into that first season of what was already a continuing show, there were definitely expectations to really pick up after where (the original cast) left off. From the beginning of that first season until the end I think our chemistry got better.

The working relationship with the crew gets better because so many people have been on the show through all three of our (seasons), and some even longer. I think year in, year out, we’ve gotten better as a team and that comes across on screen, I think.

MMAWeekly.com: We’ve spoken in the past about the physical demands of Strike Back. Has it gotten easier with time or has the need to make things bigger than the previous seasons made it more difficult?

Warren Brown: I don’t think it gets easier. The pace and everything is still relentless. I think we’re more prepared having done our first season and knowing that was going to be the blueprint for Strike Back.

Every day is a huge, huge day with stunts, explosions, fights, usually all of those in every single day from the minute we start shooting the start of the season until the end of the season. I think now we’re prepped for that, so maybe that’s made it a little bit easier because you know what you’re expecting, but every single day it’s still so physically and mentally demanding. We put everything into it.

MMAWeekly.com: What can fans expect from this final season of Strike Back?

Warren Brown: This year you’re going to see quite a bit more character development. You get quite a bit of look at backstories. You’re in for a hell of a ride this season. We all get our moment to shine with a stunt or a fight, and I think this last season everyone is pushed more than we’ve ever been pushed and we’ve put in more than we’ve ever put in because the script required that.

I quite honestly think this season’s the best it’s ever been. The DNA and main ingredients of Strike Back: the fights, the explosions, the stunts, the camaraderie, the banter, I think we’ve gone above that this year. This being the final season there’s going to be some shocks and surprises along the way. I’m excited for the fans to see it.

MMAWeekly.com: Thanks for taking time out for us again, Warren. In conclusion tell our readers what is going on with you in 2020.

Warren Brown: I took a bit of a break in January and did a bit of traveling. I went to Australia and caught up with Dan and Alin. I went to Bali and did a bit of diving. It’s been nice to kind of take a break; it’s been a hell of a two years.

After taking a month off, now I’m looking to just get cracking and see what happens this year. I’m very excited. I’m going to come out to LA for a bit and spend a bit of time out there and see what’s happening, especially while the show is on.

I got into this business kind of by accident, and I’ve just been rolling with it. I’m absolutely putting everything into it, because I’m passionate about it and am working hard, just kind of seeing what happens. I’m excited to see what happens because I don’t know (what’s coming next).
