Jean Silva admits that his dark past has always haunted him.
Perhaps the wildest of The Fighting Nerds members, Silva is known for unabashedly expressing his emotions. Silva recently laid bare disturbing details from his past. The Brazilian featherweight saw his mother get sexually assaulted by three men, whom she then killed.

“The dark side of my life always haunted me,” Silva told ESPN. “I suffer with the things my mom’s been through. It hurts, it hurts a lot, everything that’s happened to her… from being raped… being imprisoned… losing a child.”
Silva’s trauma didn’t end there. Silva’s brother was shot dead, and he was with him in his final moments. Silva believes his brother’s death gave birth to the “Lord” in him. While Silva believes the “entity” or “spirit” protects him, he also knows that it can cause chaos.
Silva: ‘Lord’ Came Into My Life After Brother Died
“When my brother died, I remember it was a matter of minutes, really,” Silva said. “I heard the first gunshot. Then I heard the second. Then the third. Then the fourth. Then the fifth. I remember I stayed by his side. He squeezed my hand really hard, with whatever little strength he had left. It’s when my brother passed away – that’s when this… I don’t know man, that’s when this ‘entity’, this ‘spirit’ was born in me. ‘Lord’ came into my life when my brother died. And he protects me, he protects me from many things. But he can be chaos too.”
Silva headlines Noche UFC against Diego Lopes on Saturday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. Silva earned his UFC contract on the Dana White’s Contender Series in 2025 and quickly rose to fame with five straight finishes. Silva made a two-week turnaround, moved up to lightweight and knocked out Drew Dober last year. Coming off a finish over Bryce Mitchell, Silva could have a legitimate claim to a featherweight title shot if he gets past former title contender Lopes.
