Aspinall (15-3) put his heavyweight title on the line against Ciryl Gane in the main event at UFC 321 this past October. The fight ended in an unfortunate no contest after Gane simultaneously poked Aspinall in both eyes in the first round. Aspinall faced some flak for choosing not to continue after getting poked in the eyes.

Aspinall recently posted a health update revealing the damage in his eyes. “Honey Badger” also blatantly called Gane a cheater. Aspinall further responded to Dana White, who had hinted that the heavyweight champ was looking for a way out of the fight. Aspinall explained that he is not a “dummy” to fight a striker like Gane with impaired vision. The Englishman promises to bring a different version of himself when he returns to action. According to Aspinall, his “nice” version will be replaced by a “bad guy” as far as MMA is concerned.
Say Hello to the Bad Guy
“When I come back, there is no more Mr. Nice Guy,” Aspinall said on YouTube. “Nice Tom, when it comes to MMA, is gone. And I’m going full bad guy.”
The no contest against Gane is not the only unfortunate thing that happened in Aspinall’s career. Aspinall stepped in and knocked out Sergei Pavlovich to win the interim title in 2023 after Jon Jones was forced out of a scheduled title defense against Stipe Miocic. Despite Aspinall being the interim champion, Jones defended the belt against Miocic upon his return. Meanwhile, Aspinall defended the interim belt against Curtis Blaydes while rallying for a title unifier against Jones. White kept assuring fans that the fight would happen as Aspinall dealt with over a year of inactivity. Aspinall was finally promoted to undisputed champ after Jones unceremoniously retired this past June.
